Our White Meat Value Chain Development program is a comprehensive initiative designed to enhance the productivity and profitability of farmers involved in chicken, rabbit, fish, and pig farming. As a cornerstone of Uganda’s growing agricultural sector, white meat production provides a vital source of nutrition and income for both small-scale and large-scale farmers.

Chicken Farming for Meat and Eggs

We specialize in training farmers on the best practices for raising chickens, from selecting high-yielding breeds to implementing proper feeding and disease management techniques. Whether you’re focused on egg production or raising broilers for meat, our program covers:

Brooding and Housing: We guide farmers on building and maintaining optimal housing conditions for chicks and adult chickens, ensuring minimal loss and maximum growth.
Nutrition and Feeding: Our experts provide detailed feeding programs for different stages of chicken growth, ensuring balanced nutrition for both meat and egg production.
Health Management: We train farmers to identify and manage common poultry diseases, preventing outbreaks and maintaining healthy, productive flocks.

Fish Farming

Fish farming is one of the most lucrative ventures in Uganda due to the high demand for fish in local and international markets. Elgona Farm’s fish farming program provides farmers with in-depth knowledge on raising fish sustainably and profitably, focusing on two major species: Tilapia and Catfish. Our program is designed to help both beginner and experienced farmers establish and manage fish farms efficiently.

Fish Pond Construction & Management

One of the first steps in fish farming is setting up an efficient fish pond or cage system. Our program covers:

Site Selection and Pond Design: We guide farmers in choosing the right site for fish ponds based on soil type, water availability, and environmental factors. Proper site selection is crucial for healthy fish development.
Pond Construction: Learn the techniques for building durable ponds, including earth ponds and concrete tanks, and how to design them for easy management.
Water Quality Management: The health of your fish depends largely on water quality. We train farmers on monitoring and maintaining appropriate oxygen levels, temperature, and pH to ensure a conducive environment for fish growth.

Agricultural Training and Capacity Building
